Visitor's Center Bike Stand
Assateague Bike RentalsRenting a bike is one of the easiest ways to explore Assateague Island. Park for free at the Assateague Island Visitor Center, pick up your bike, and follow the protected bike path onto the island. Visitors entering by bike do not pay an entrance fee at Assateague Island National Seashore or Assateague State Park.
The island’s mostly flat terrain makes for an easy, enjoyable ride. The bike paths connect you to the beaches, nature trails, campgrounds, and other popular areas throughout both parks. Riding a bike also lets you avoid the vehicle entrance line, which can get long during the busy summer season.
Along the way, you may see wild horses, sika deer, and many of Assateague’s shorebirds. Always stay at least 40 feet away from the horses and give all wildlife plenty of space.
Our BikesWe rent comfortable Jamis Taxi beach cruisers with wide seats and easy to use frames. They are a good fit for casual riders, families, and anyone looking for a relaxed way to see the island. Our staff will help adjust your bike and make sure you are ready to ride before you head out.
Location and HoursOur bicycle rental stand is located at the far end of the Assateague Island Visitor Center parking lot. Before crossing the Verrazano Bridge onto Assateague Island, turn right into the Visitor Center entrance.
For directions, search “Assateague Outfitters Bike Stand” in Google Maps.
During the summer, the bike stand is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
